The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints donated walkers, rollator’s, canes, shower chairs, and grab bars to the Department of Integrated Services for Individuals with Disabilities (DISID) on February 22, 2023. Anne Anulao is a program coordinator with DISID. Touched by the amount of the donations, she said: “We are very appreciative with the equipment that was donated by the wonderful Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints! There was a total of 100 items that were donated today. This is really going to help the people with disabilities just like the wheelchairs did that were donated from the Church last year. There is such an outcry of people with disabilities requesting items. We don’t have the funds to take care of them all. It is a blessing to receive this from your church.”
Michelle Perez, the (acting) director of DISID, expressed her thoughts by saying: “There aren't enough words to express how grateful and blessed we are to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for once again providing another generous donation! As we know, there will be a time when people may eventually need devices that will assist them in any type of daily living, such as bath chairs, walkers, and canes. The challenge that most, if not all, of our clients that we serve face is that they can’t afford to purchase these items. The individuals we serve are faced with limited financial resources, little or no insurance, or the inability to qualify for Medicare or Medicaid, which makes it very difficult to obtain basic assistance for independence and an overall better outlook on life.”
