On November 15th food donations from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints were added to the Catholic Archdiocese of Agaña’s efforts to serve some of Guam’s most vulnerable residents.
The archdiocese’s Ministry to the Homeless, located in Hagåtña, organizes the outreach with a stated goal to be “a shining light” in the community. The Ministry to the Homeless provides daily meals and other self-reliance services for those in need of a helping hand.
Helping to deliver and unload the food donation were Elder Craig and Sister Brenda Brooksby, currently serving as humanitarian missionaries in the Micronesia Guam Mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. “We love the opportunity to partner with our Christian friends to help meet this important need in Guam,” said Sister Brooksby.

The donation was accepted by Program Director Doris C. Royal who coordinates the organization’s outreach efforts.
“We treat our homeless population like family,” explained Royal. “We care about those we serve, and keep an organized, structured environment.” A safe and welcoming environment is maintained at the facility. Those who come are expected to be respectful of the volunteers as well as each other. No one is received who is under the influence of alcohol or other substances.
In addition to the daily meal which is served between 5:00 and 5:30 P.M., Royal explained that the ministry also helps those it serves to prepare themselves with the necessary skills and legal documentation so that they can more effectively go out into the community and seek employment.
